Future Memories are Made Now

A highlight of our summer of 2024 - visiting the Oregon coast

As summer sprints to its finish, I hope everyone has enjoyed some time to unplug, unwind, and un-everything. It’s a good time to stop and point out that our future memories we’ll be looking back at someday might just be in the making now. That summer vacation, even the one that went south, is the stuff of legends that the whole family will revisit for years to come. I’ve heard stories of luggage flying off the roofs of station wagons, losing children in the happiest place on Earth only to find them riding ‘It’s a Small World’ again with some unknown family, and camping trips gone wrong with bear encounters and lost hiking trails. When asked if they regret taking the trip, most people say they would do it all over again if they could. Why? Because time softens the rough edges and there is something fleeting about these moments spent with the people we love. They are memories in the making.

After interviewing countless people looking back on their life, most people don’t regret the vacations taken, the time spent with family, or the occasional day off. So if you still haven’t slowed down enough this summer, I encourage you to do so. Work deadlines and other commitments can wait, and you may have a good story to retell in your old age from back in the ‘Summer of 2024.’
