Three Things I Learned from Reading
On Writing by Stephen King
Simon & Schuster, $17 ISBN 978-1-4391-5681-0, 2000
King's description of his childhood earache pain and subsequent medical procedures (involving long needles and lancing of eardrums) reads like one of his fictional horror works. Yeouch.
His candid disclosure of his many rejection letters and other failures early on in his career was encouraging. Misery (pun intended) loves company.
He got sober then was run over by a car--both near fatal experiences. Talk about fodder for writing. I think the universe kept him around so he could share these amazing writing tips and tell more stories. I'm grateful for that.
